Retreat to the Abbey at Gethsemani
Lent 2025
This past February, during Lent, a group of 20+ parishioners from All Saints traveled to the Abbey of Gethsemani, a silent Trappist monastery located in Kentucky, to enter the prayerful, daily lives of the monks. We met as a group before and after our scheduled weekends, and each member who went spoke of the incredible impact this weekend had on them. Being surrounded by a community dedicated to silence and reflection has a natural and powerful way of revealing the intersection of God and our deepest desires. Henri Nouwen spoke of this intersection when we enter silence and hear these desires emerge: “They come from a very deep place and from very far. They have been speaking to us since before we were born, and they reveal to us that there is no darkness in the One who sent us into the world, only light. They are part of God’s voice calling us from all eternity: ‘My beloved child, my favorite one, my joy.’ ” We are planning a return trip to Gethsemani in Lent 2025, from February 28 to March 31, and you are welcome to join us again!
